Not Enough Hours In The Day
8/25/2008 7:55:08 AM

Ok so I have been a really bad girl and haven’t kept up my daily photo. So for those of you who are actually looking I have changed it to Weekly Photos. Unfortunately I just do not have enough hours in the day at the moment – not to mention a stress fracture in my leg due to over training L but that’s on the mend and am off the crutches but no serious training for another 6 weeks at least. Holding a camera on crutches was not an easy task let me tell you lol the monopod came in very handy.

So hopefully by the weekend I will have something to put up that is worthy of ‘Pic of the Week”. Stay tuned to this space J

45 Minutes
6/17/2008 11:08:55 PM

The challenge of yesterday was due to time. We were waiting for a customer and Nick decided that I had 45 minutes to take a photo and get back to work. He also said a maximum of five photos. So off into the wild blue yonder (yes it has been lovely blue sky here) in Ballarat. My first thought was the brick chimneys but on closer look didn’t really lend itself to anything I had in mind. One chimney however on a corner gave great angles against the blue sky (ok made bluer by the polarising filter). All taken in under 20 mins J.

Macro Iris
6/15/2008 9:37:45 PM

Playing around with the extension tubes today trying very hard to get reflected flowers in water drops and failing miserably J. I took some shots of the flowers with the tubes attached.

Tech notes are f/16, 4 sec (tripod and remote release used) ISO 200, manual focus, shot in RAW with 90mm macro lens and full set of extension tubes. White balance adjusted in Camera Raw then a levels and curves layer in PS3 with a tad of unsharpening.

Feel free to leave a comment.......good or bad constructive critisism will always be read and taken note of.

Monastery
6/15/2008 7:34:05 PM

This is the old monastery in Ballarat that has been turned into apartments. They have left all the statues etc there and on a cloudy day it just lends itself to HDR.

Nick had given me the topic of Apocalyptic Churches so I originally went to an old church here that is apparently haunted. On the day however the photos taken did not come out the way they I saw them in my mind so off they went to the recycle bin.

Another site was needed hence the back of the monastery.

Technical side of things is three exposures shot in RAW one stop apart. Blended together with Photomatrix and tonemapped. Adjustments of levels, curves and a touch of sharpening in PS3. This is probably a touch too much HDR for most people but I thought it lended itself more to the topic like this.

Testing Again :)
6/13/2008 8:21:42 PM

Well looks like my site is up and running without all the red lines of errors thanks to the support people. So just as a final test here is an old photo taken of light trails outside the Ballarat Town Offices.

New Server
6/8/2008 9:14:06 PM

So after a week of servers not doing what they are supposed to do I have decided to move servers and also my domain name. Hopefully this will all be up and running by the end of this week (even better if it is done by tonight) and then I can get back to doing what I love.

So please bear with me just a little longer and hope that this server is more reliable than the last.......good news is their help desk certainly is J

Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3
6/8/2008 9:08:36 PM

Well unfortunately time got away with me today and again problems with website so am crossing fingers that it is fixed and fixed permanently.

So a picture I took earlier in the year at an abandoned house near work.

Typically Australian
6/8/2008 9:07:05 PM

Looks like the site is back to a working module and with fingers crossed I won’t have any more trouble with it. So today’s topic is Australian…….ie what is typically Australian. My first thought ran to Vegemite and yes I know, before anyone jumps up and down it is no longer an Australian company. It is however still made in Australia (or so it states on the jar) and apart from Tim Tams (which are out of bounds for a while) I couldn’t think of anything more Australian.

So for the technicalities – f/11, ISO 200 and shot in RAW. A strong contrast adjusted in curves, a crop and an unsharp mask was all the adjustments made.

Last Weeks Pictures II - 6th June 2008
6/8/2008 9:05:57 PM

Still having a bit of trouble with this site builder software so here is the HDR pic from last week.

Last Weeks Pictures I - 6th June 2008
6/8/2008 9:04:29 PM

Due to website malfunctions these two pics from last week ended up being “lost” so am putting them up again. Unfortunately I have lost all my details that were on here so will just put up the pics for your perusal.

Hopefully there will be no more website downtime from now on J fingers crossed.

Autumn

Primary Colours - 21st May 2008
6/8/2008 9:02:25 PM

Today’s topic of Primary Colours allowed me to stay indoors out of the rain and play with an early birthday present (thanks Mick & Mo). Set up at work just putting the pencils in a glass and using a tripod this was taken using a full set of extension tubes of 68mm (totally ridiculous with my camera shake to use them without a tripod) and a Tamron 90mm Macro lens. I was blown away by the clarity of the pictures with the magnification using the tubes and can’t wait to try them on water droplets. Maybe that can be tomorrows topic.

Technical points are f/22, 0.6 sec, ISO 200, manual focus (not sure with the tubes on auto focus yet, waiting for my daughter to translate the Japanese instructions J). White balance fixed in Camera Raw and curves darkened in PS3.

Lines Of Communication - 20th May 2008
6/8/2008 9:01:05 PM

Well true to his word Nick came up with another topic. And today’s topic was Lines of Communication. I picked two of the least used forms of communication nowadays. After all who needs a public telephone when you have a mobile and why bother sending a handwritten letter when you have text or email?

Hope you enjoy and for the technical data…… shot in RAW format, f/16, 1/60th sec and ISO 200. It was then processed in Photoshop’s Camera Raw with a change in white balance, a tweak in curves, and a change to black and white. I then took to PS3 where I added a very soft film grain.

Abstract Architecture - 19th May 2008
6/8/2008 8:59:46 PM

Well my gorgeous husband Nick has decided to give me a bit of a helping hand with my discipline for the daily photo. Each day he is giving me a subject and time permitting at work is sending me out into the wilds of Ballarat to capture the moment.

Today’s subject was “Modern Architecture at an Acute Angle”. So off I wondered looking for modern architecture on an extremely dull wet day. Luckily not all Ballarat is historical, one of the schools has a nice modern building with lots of colour. Hope you enjoy today’s picture and for those interested in the technicalities it was taken in RAW format, f/16, 1/30sec and ISO 200 in Aperture mode. Image was then processed through PS3 Camera Raw and final curves adjustment in PS3.

HDR - 19th May 2008
6/8/2008 8:58:34 PM

This is where I hope to be placing a photo of the day and to tell you a little about how I came to take it……but to start with it may be photo of the week until I can get myself disciplined enough (or I can work out how to get an extra two hours in the day J). I am actually going to start with my first attempt at HDR. This was taken from one RAW file changed into three exposures and put through Photomatrix.
